Iran honors commendable craftspeople

Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Organization hosted a ceremony in Tehran to commemorate a number of commendable Iranian craftspeople.

Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Organization (CHTHO) has hosted a ceremony in Tehran to commemorate a number of commendable Iranian craftspeople.

Traditional jewelry maker Mostafa Yahouei form Khorasan Razavi Province, woodcarver Hessam Heydari form Kordestan Province, leather craftsman Esmaeil Mirfakhrai from Isfahan Province, and potter Mohammad-Hossein Afshari from Alborz Province were among the honorees of the Tuesday ceremony.

Several cultural officials, including CHTHO Deputy Director Bahman Namvar-Motlaq as well as tens of countrywide artisans attended the ceremony.

Dozens of Iranian handicrafts have been honored with the UNESCO Seal of Excellence over the past couple of years.

In 2010, a total of 65 crafts from different fields and themes of Persian Art, including enamel, tile, metalwork, leatherwork, wood carving received the honor.
